Artist's Comments

A portfolio piece for my website, which I'm actually almost ready to go live with! Hooray! =D
You may remember this from it's original sketch in 'Selections from Sketbook 3": [link]

I do hope you like it!

This is pretty self explanatory, I think. It's a sample book illustration for 'Snow White', designed as a double page spread. There's a piece in the works that goes with this, but I haven't finished it yet.

And yes, I'm insane. So much detail! I think it was worth it, though.

Size: 37 x 25.5cm
Media: Adobe Photoshop CS, starting with a pencil sketch.
Time Taken: No idea. Too long, anyway. I wasn't working on it at all solidly, but I started it 3 weeks ago.
Textures: from cgtextures.com

This image is copyright Alison Mutton 2009. Please respect that.

Ooh, very pretty! :D :D
The tiger is so cute!
I'm in a cutesy mood today, if that explains anything.
Anyways... It's really elaborate, all the designs and textures! It's beautiful!

A comment! =D
Fortunately for my sanity, the illustration paired with this is much less elaborate - I wanted to show a contrast between the palace and everywhere else, basically, so the palace gets lots of pot plants and tiles. =P
I'm so glad you like it!

Very lovely!
The details are wonderful, and the colors are very vibrant-- and I love how that peacock is sitting on top of the text. . . (Hee. More vanity!)
:iconalene:
Thankyou so much! =D I had fun making this as vibrant and opulent as I could.
I always like incorporating the text with the illustration, if I can. I think it's better than treating them as totally separate elements, sometimes (depending on the illustration, of course). And I enjoy putting in little bits of symbolism, even if the intended audience probably won't pick up on it (so thankyou for noticing the peacock! =P)

It was well worth it.

Pretty picture! XD Is it a retelling of Snow White with the title "Mirror Mirror..."?

I love details like that. I missed it on first glance, then realized he was standing there as I looked again. Kudos for symbolism, and putting it in as a detail that fits with the rest of the image.
Again, love it, and would totally buy a book that contained images like that. Screw being an adult reading fairy tales-- I still like 'em. :D
