Kim Novak 2
It's been a while since I've posted a movie star portrait, so here you are, all you lovely people watching me just for them. Sorry I don't do many of them these days, technically I'm a children's illustrator, not a portraitist! I hope you like this one!

:star: Head over to my blog for progress photos, and a video of me drawing her eye!

Medium: Graphite. There's a list of the materials I use for pencil portraiture in the 'Tutorials' section of my gallery.
Size: A little under A3
Time Taken: 17 hours

2016 Christmas Card 1
Here's one of the designs for the Christmas cards we sent out this year. I'm really pleased with my 2016 set!
In person, the halo behind her head is gilded with Cosmic Shimmer Gilding Flakes. The effect is amazing! Head over to my blog post where I have videos about this plus photos and progress gifs. All the good stuff!

Time Taken: About 10 hours
Media: Adobe Photoshop CC 2015 on a Wacom Cintiq Companion 2
References: My own, plus a free glitter texture for the dots and halo-before-gilding. I used Kyle T Webster's Photoshop brushes, mainly Perfect Pencil and Big Soft Spongy.

Enjoy! :D

Tropical Island
When Colour Collective (a colour-based challenge on Twitter) came up with the colour 'lighting bug yellow' I decided to shun the obvious connotations and paint something tropical. It's winter here, and it had been cold and wet and grey - plus who really needs an excuse to draw a lovely coral reef? I had a bit more time for my Colour Collective piece than usual, and decided to create a proper portfolio piece, rather than a smaller sketch.

There's a progress gif of this on my blog, plus a hyperlapse video of me painting one of the fish:

Media: Adobe Photoshop CC on a Wacom Cintiq Companion 2
Time Taken: About 12 hours
Loose eferences used for the coral and fish etc.

Enjoy! =D

100 Days of Old Movies
I recently completed the 100 Day Challenge on social media. My personal challenge was to create a sketch of an actor or actress in an old movie every day for 100 days. In total I drew 102 actors and actresses, 81 different ones from 47 films. I didn't feature any screen couple more than once, but some people doubled-up. I didn't worry too much about perfect likenesses, as all of these were done as quickly as possible. The aim was to increase my speed, not to be perfect.

You can see all the stats for this, as well as individual posts with details on all the movies I featured (and larger versions of each couple), on my blog: alene-art.blogspot.com.au/2016…
